Description
Antique Silver Vinaigrette is Hallmarked for BIRMINGHAM in 1830 by Ledsam Vale & Wheeler. The top cartooch is engraved in minute engraving ” From JJB” once opened it reveals a beautiful gilt interior with a complex grill with little bird as central feature with open work foliage. Originally all Viniagretts would have a tiny sponges soaked in sweet vinegar this is whereto name originates Vinaigrette. In those bygone days drains etc made everywhere smell very bad and no Lady or Gent would leave the house with out one. Making it great gift as this one obviously was, portable ,useful and very precious silver. Now very collectable. Willaim IV
